What you will do
The Security System Design Engineer will support the outside sales staff by designing and estimating low voltage systems (e.g. access control, intrusion alarm, video surveillance, mass notification).  Additionally, this person will also be responsible for coordinating with outside vendors on structured cabling systems, site audio/video, sound masking, etc.

How you will do it 

  • Serve as a technical resource by responding with correct and prompt information to sales and operations team requests related to designing low voltage systems design, support infrastructure, installation, and testing/certification.
  • Interpret project blueprints and other construction documents at a high level of understanding, including but not limited to plans, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare and submit RFI responses prior to the due date to clarify discrepancies in the specifications, plans and/or scope of a project designed by an outside architect/consultant.
  • Communicate with outside vendors and clients to build relationships, define the project scope, address any deficiencies, and negotiate pricing.
  • Source bids and review initial pricing from third party suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Assists in the development of access control and video surveillance design templates, standards, and guidelines to improve department accuracy and efficiency.
  • Responsible for proper product application, accurate estimate generation and detailed proposal creation based on customer requirements, construction document constraints, and known performance standards.
  • Continuously follow up on all bid projects and accurately report project tracking metrics.
  • Partner with Branch and/or Connected Technologies operations teams to properly transfer awarded projects and perform buyouts when necessary.
  • Provides technical product expertise and support to all team members.
  • Promote Johnson Controls Safety culture and Integrity values to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned.
What we look for

  • Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in Access Control and Video Surveillance Systems.  Additional experience in Building Automation, Fire Alarm, Audio/Video, and/or IP network-based systems is a plus.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline (Construction Technology, Industrial Distribution, Engineering, etc.).  Those with a High School diploma will be considered if they have a minimum of five (5) years of the relevant work experience noted above.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, and develop detailed associated tasks.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have the ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and have a clean MVR
