What you will do

Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. 

Location: Balboa Naval Medical Center (Military experience not required)

Pay: $21.50 per hour.

Shift: First Shift. Hours will be around 7:30am - 4:00pm. Weekends and holidays required at times.

Benefits: Eligible for health and retirement benefits on first day of employment

Vacation: Eligible for 3 weeks of paid vacation in first year of employment

How you will do it

1. Assists in performing routine repair of structures, which may include wall repairs, carpet installation, sanding walls in preparation for painting, painting, etc.

2. Assists in performing safety check on heating, cooling and other equipment.

3. Must comply with work order system to include interpreting work orders, performing work requested and completing work orders per instruction.

4. Mixes appropriate chemical(s) (i.e. cleaning, fertilizer, construction compounds) per manufacturer's specifications.

5. May perform the replacement of minor electrical devices.

6. May operate and maintain heavy equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, waxing machines, forklifts or groundskeeping equipment such front end loaders or a back-hoe.

7. Moves furniture and equipment as assigned.

8. Ensures all light fixtures are operational, changes light bulbs as necessary.

9. May assist in layout, construction and repair of a variety of plant or office structures such as walls, partitions, doors, concrete forms, raised floors, ceiling tiles or roofs. Assists in layout for equipment installation.

10. May also assist in construction work such as laying brick, block, ceramic tile, concrete walkways or asphalt.

11. Assists with securing assigned area(s). May perform routine security tours of buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows and gates, to ensure they are properly secured.

12. Complies with all company policies and procedures and adheres to company standards.

13. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

14. Performs any other miscellaneous duties as requested.

What we look for

1. High school graduate or equivalent.

2. Ability to read labels, directions, work orders, etc.

3. Two (2) or more years of general maintenance experience

4. Must possess a valid driver’s license

5. Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment.

6. Must be physically able to perform maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, which includes ability to: climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs., etc.
7. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)

1. Ability to work second or third shift, holidays, and weekends as needed.

2. Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting
