What you will do:

The Director of Codes & Standards is responsible for monitoring, understandings and influencing pertinent industry codes and standards at country level. They will influence and understand code changes and additions that impact the Fire Suppression industry globally or regionally. You will align between Product Management, Sales, R&D and Business Development to drive strategy for new and existing products relative to C&S developments.


How will you do it:

  • Track, monitor and report on relevant industry codes and standards activities that impact JCI Fire Suppression products.
  • Monitor and engage industry trade associations and environmental advocacy organizations that influence and advocate for Fire Suppression codes and standards and policy changes such AFSA, EFSN, BVFA etc.
  • Coordinate regulatory activities with internal Johnson Controls stakeholders as well as external stakeholders when participating in industry public policy initiatives, working groups or when providing official company comments
  • Identify all trade association memberships, to which JCI subscribes, and who pays for each one we are involved with.
  • Identify issues, develop clear summaries of issues and recommend strategies to deal with any regulatory, codes and standards issues that arise
  • Clearly communicate Fire Suppression regulatory, codes and standards issues to senior Johnson Controls management, sales staff, engineering and other pertinent stakeholders as needed
  • Interface with Property Owners, Facility Managers, Building Managers, Engineers, Architects, and Contractors on building code or standards issues as needed
  • Assist in the submission of comment letters, building code waivers or other communications with federal, state and local governments and other industry organizations as necessary to promote Johnson Controls positions and business interest
  • Work with sales and engineering to ensure product and building code compliance to ensure acceptability of Johnson Controls Unitary Products for local codes inspectors
  • Provide technical support for code compliance as it pertains to new product specifications, layout, design, and application
  • Assist engineers with locating and defining codes compliance specifications and standards
  • Obtain and study information about competitors’ products for operation and code compliance


What we look for 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, a related technical field or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience dealing with mechanical codes and standards at the country level
  • Detailed knowledge or experience with Fire Suppression engineering design, laboratory testing, product management, technical sales, applications support or a closely related technical field;
  • Detailed knowledge or experience related to regulatory procedures and certification test requirements for Fire Suppression Products
  • Creative thinker; strong analytical and advisory skills
  • Ability to write clear and professional reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Very effective verbal and written communication skills, English speaking, German language capabilities is a plus
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to prepare coherent and persuasive official company comments to federal agencies and legislative committees on issues of importance
