What you will do
We are searching for a strategic leader to drive the Environmental, Health & Safety function for our field operations business with 130+ field locations throughout North America. The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Director is a key leader in the Buildings business and JCI (as part of the global EHS senior leadership team) with responsibility for the NA Buildings, Technology & Solutions (BT&S) /Sensormatic Solutions environmental, health & safety strategies, policies, standards, compliance, and management initiatives. The position reports to the Vice President and General Manager NA Field Operations and functionally to the VP of EHS for JCI. The NA EHS Director is a leader and catalyst for driving toward our vision of Zero Harm to people and the environment.
This person will lead a process of change management in the organization and create a heightened consciousness across the regions to transform the organization by integrating the EHS team and key EHS strategies and programs. The leader will provide the businesses with a coherent and unified approach to safety and health, having direct responsibility for the regional EHS teams and working with these teams to develop and implement appropriate processes and systems.
The EHS Director is a member of the EHS senior leadership team and participates in the creation of strategy and direction for the enterprise. As a member of this team, the director represents the NA region and the Sensormatic business. Position will be located in our corporate offices in Milwaukee, WI.

Relevant responsibilities include:
 Responsibility for the development of NA BT&S/Sensormatic Solutions EHS strategy and policy direction and as member of the senior EHS leadership team, participating in the JCI strategy, policy and program development.
 Fully understanding the business strategies in order to conceptualize, recommend and implement business processes that ensure alignment with the JCI EHS strategy.
 Developing new and innovative programs to motivate the workforce to participate and engage in EHS.
 Ensure enterprise EHS strategies/programs are implemented at the regional level.
 Leading a team of dedicated NA EHS professionals with responsibility for talent development and mentoring related to technical expertise and leadership capability of EHS staff.
 Leading the development and enhancement of the NA BT&S/Sensormatic Solutions & Federal Systems EHS Coordinator program in support of EHS compliance and communications at the branch level.
 Responsibility for ensuring EHS culture engagement efforts are implemented and well-aligned with the business strategies across the regions.
 Providing visibility of safety, health, and environmental progress, performance, and to the executive leadership team.Responsible for improving both leading and lagging measures of the EHS program.
 Leading the driver safety efforts in conjunction with the fleet organization,.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and leading safety culture & observation programs in a Construction setting.
 Demonstrated experience in leading field organization thru risk based programs in Working at Heights & Electrical Safety & NFPA 70E.
 In conjunction with the Human Resources organization, providing EHS leadership to the company wellness efforts and workers compensation program.
 Providing expert advice to JCI executive team on EHS issues related to the NA BT&S/Sensormatic Solutions & Federal Systems businesses and report on EHS and sustainability performance.
 Ensuring all incidents are properly reported, investigated and corrective actions developed and implemented.
 Represents the business with customers to sell the value of the EHS programs and accomplishments and provides interface for client specific requirements.
 Develops and deploys EHS communication and training strategy, including identifying/shaping the key messages conveyed at the Sr. leader and leader to employee level
 Assesses new developments in the health and safety regulatory environment and industry best practices; enables successful compliance reviews and corrective action closure of audit findings
 Leads Workers Compensation efforts for NA businesses, Federal Systems and Sensormatic Solutions.

 Proven capability leading and managing comprehensive EHS programs in a relevant, service environment with a dispersed workforce.
 A minimum of 15 years’ experience with at least 5 in a management role; a B.Sc. degree in safety management, engineering, or related field with a M.Sc. preferred.
*Strategic leader with proven track record in large corporate integration leading the safety function and driving change preferred.
 Experience preferred in leading the EHS function for a Commercial Construction firm within NA.
 Demonstrates excellent leadership, collaboration, coaching/training, motivational, communications, influencing, negotiating and selling skills at all levels.
 A strong business perspective that includes the ability to work with all levels of executives and operational associates.
 An excellent understanding of NA laws, regulations and governance requirements that relate to EHS.
 Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new strategic initiatives.
 A background which indicates a high capacity for travel and a desire to engage frequently with field-based organizations around the region.
 Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
 An exceptional EHS professional with a track record of creating increased awareness, heightened standards, and improved performance in a major global corporation in a distributed field based organization. The ideal candidate will have a high level of market/customer sensitivity, outstanding leadership skills, as well as interpersonal characteristics reflecting uncompromising integrity, a results-orientation, a collaborative style, a commitment to talent development, and a highly positive attitude.
