How you will do it

·       Track, monitor and report on relevant industry codes and standards activities at the federal and state levels that impact Johnston Controls’ products – residential, commercial and industrial HVACR products.

·       Work closely with Johnson Controls government relations team to track and monitor relevant federal and state agency policies and regulatory actions, which may impact state or municipality codes and standards actions.

·       Work closely with Johnson Controls sustainability team on environmental programs, positions, outreach and public statements, and work to develop environmental and sustainability strategies.

·       Monitor, engage and influence industry trade associations, environmental advocacy organizations and other stakeholders that advocate for changes in HVACR codes and standards and environmental policy proposals.

·       Work with channel and industry business partners HARDI and ACCA to develop positions that promote Johnson Controls positions and interest through various standards and code organizations

·       Coordinate regulatory activities with internal Johnson Controls stakeholders as well as external stakeholders (AHRI, HRAI, HARDI, ACCA, ASHRAE, etc.) when participating in industry public policy initiatives, working groups or when providing official company comments

·       Identify issues, develop clear summaries and recommend strategies to deal with any relevant policy, regulatory or codes and standards issues that arise

·       Clearly communicate relevant policy, regulatory codes and standards issues to senior Johnson Controls management, sales staff, engineering and other pertinent stakeholders as needed

·       Interface with Property Owners, Facility Managers, Building Managers, Engineers, Architects, and Contractors on building code or standards issues as needed

·       Assist in the submission of comment letters on changes in policy, regulations building codes or other communications with federal, state and local governments and other industry organizations as necessary to promote Johnson Controls positions and business interest

·       Work with sales and engineering to ensure product and building code compliance to ensure acceptability of Johnson Controls Unitary Products for local codes inspectors

·       Provide technical support for code compliance as it pertains to new product specifications, layout, design, and application

·       Compose and present detailed technical discussions to codes organizations, green groups, utility companies, federal, state, and local code organizations

·       Assist engineers with locating and defining codes compliance specifications and standards

·       Obtain and study information about competitors’ products for operation and code compliance

 

 

 

 

What we look for

Required

·       Bachelor's degree in engineering, a related technical field or relevant experience.

·       5+ years’ experience dealing with mechanical codes and standards at the federal level; prior experience with DOE and EPA specific codes and standards is a plus

·       Detailed knowledge or experience with HVACR engineering design, laboratory testing, product management, technical sales, applications support or a closely related technical field; detailed knowledge of refrigerants and their applications is a plus

·       Familiarity with key industry associations and NGOs such as AHRI, ASHRAE ACCA, HARDI, ACEEE, NRDC, ASE, CEE, NYSERDA, NEEP, etc.

·       Detailed knowledge or experience related to regulatory procedures and certification test requirements for unitary or other HVAC products (AHRI, ASHRAE, UL/CSA/ETL, IEC/ISO, NEC, etc.)

·       Creative thinker; strong analytical and decision making skills

·       Ability to write clear and professional reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word

·       Excellent problem solving skills

·       Very effective verbal and written communication skills

·       High attention to detail

·       Ability to prepare coherent and persuasive official company comments to federal agencies and legislative committees on issues of importance
