For our European Engineering Center (EEC) in Milan, Italy we are currently looking for an:

 

Electronic Hardware and Firmware Engineer

 

In this role, you will work as an integral part of the BAS (Building Automation Systems) team, embedded in the new European Engineering Center (EEC). The EEC is an extension of the Global Controls product organization and is primarily focused on building and sustaining a market-winning portfolio of products for the European market. As Electronic HW and FW Engineer, you will be involved in the conception of NPI (New Product Introduction) processes for innovative BAS products and solutions, as well as contribute to the improvement and customizations of our current products. To be successful in this role, you will be familiar with HW and FW design for controllers and/or BAS controls equipment, have general knowledge of control systems & control methodologies, HVAC/BAS systems or other applicable technologies.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Leading the technical specification and the development of new BAS products HW/FW
  • HW/FW (analog and digital) design and development for next generation products
  • Provide innovative leadership in product development process-improvements and refinements particularly as they apply to electronic HW/FW development
  • Participate in system development activity to assure our designs are technically sound and we meet requirements and compliance standards (CE, UL, etc.)
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project schedules and budgets
  • Define product conformance/qualification test plans and criteria
  • Analyzing and solving complex hardware/software issues
  • Lab testing including timely resolution of issues found
  • Generate new ideas; contribute to innovation and to Johnson Controls intellectual property.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication with our other Engineering centers
  • Follow all Health & Safety and Environmental requirements
  • Apply, execute and maintain function related quality issues complying with Global Design Process

Position Requirements:

  • Master degree in Electronic Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in HW/FW electronic design of embedded microprocessor based controls (for applications such as industrial automation, HVAC…).
  • Knowledge of embedded microprocessors architecture (ARM Cortex and similar) and preferably of BAS controls technologies
  • Product development experience and familiarity with entire product development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, test and deployment, obsolescence management)
  • HW Cad/simulation experience (e.g. Mentor Graphics, Spice)
  • Programming skills (C/C++ …)
  • Experience with electronic test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, functions generators, data loggers, environmental chambers…)
  • Knowledge of European EMC standards and regulations
  • Ability to write technical specifications and engineering documentation
  • Recognize and respond to expectations in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency required
  • Good communicator and have the ability to pay attention to details
  • Team player, able to integrate his activities in complex, multinational and multicultural project teams
  • International outlook and willing to travel abroad occasionally on business (up to 30% of the time)
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to manage stress
  • Methodical and structural approach to tasks
  • Flexible, resilient, able to adapt rapidly and successfully to changes
  • Fluent oral and written English is a must; Italian would be an advantage
