What you will do:
This role has two main duties and responsibilities:
 Responsible for the implementation of the plant environmental management system; which includes compliance with applicable regulations, promoting pollution prevention & waste reduction, training employees and the overall reduction of the plant’s impact on the environment.   Responsible for reducing work related injuries by continuously improving the safety management system and leading cultural change by demonstrating exceptional leadership and engaging employees on all levels.  Responsible for the implementation of safety programs, employee training, compliance monitoring, maintaining reporting mechanisms and management of accidents, property losses and workers compensation.
Ensure effective implementation and ongoing effectiveness of High Performance Teams.  Develop group competencies within the teams.  Direct the High Performance Team process, interacting with the teams, supervision, managers, star guides and other parties, and plant manager.

How you will do it:

Evaluating the safety management system for its effectiveness and maintaining documented continuous improvement plans to improve performance.
Engaging and directing the leadership staff in their safety roles and responsibilities.  Effectively communicating what the safety responsibilities are for their direct reports and how their activities impact safety performance.
Engaging the entire work force both salary and hourly to drive cultural change and accomplishing safety performance objectives and targets.
Insuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements and JCI corporate safety systems, and acting as the lead contact with regulatory agencies.
Performing incident investigations using a formal process, with the focus on root cause, corrective and preventive actions and verification.
Providing effective training for all safety programs including but not limited to lockout t/ tag out, machine guarding, fall protection, powered industrial vehicle, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, electrical safety, confined space, respiratory protection and walking and working surfaces.
Developing and implementing motivational and incentive programs that promote a high degree of safety awareness and enthusiasm.
Establish, record, and track safety performance metrics, both leading and lagging indicators.
Insuring that behavior based observation programs are effectively implemented and tracked.
Performing or insuring compliance with industrial hygiene testing and other requirements.
Reviewing planned changes and new equipment installations prior to receipt. Approves or recommends changes in manufacturing and engineering matters of plant layout, location/relocation of machinery, equipment, facilities, safety designs, and processes.
Insures that the safety committee is comprised of both management and hourly participants.  Actively participates and insure that the committee is effective and value added.
Trains all new employees concerning plant safety rules and guidelines. Works with management in a joint effort to provide the worker with a safe attitude, safe surroundings and safe equipment.
Managing workers compensation and reducing costs by working closely with insurance carriers, JCI workers compensation manager, attorneys and state authorities, along with in-house supervisors and managers. Manages each claim from the accident report to the return of the worker for modified duty and ultimately to claim closure.
Managing property risk by insuring compliance with FM Global assessments and routinely touring the property and conducting inspections to insure compliance.
Implement the corporate environmental management system.  Collect environmental data for use in determining root-causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities.  Implement proactive corrective steps.
Must complete and submit applicable environmental reports in a timely fashion (such as Tier II, TRI Form R, Generator’s Residual Waste, Waste-Water Self-Monitoring, and Air Emissions Inventory).  
Must record and maintain spreadsheets containing all paint booth, fin press and parts washer chemical usage and air emissions.
Is responsible for the administration, implementation and compliance with the ISO14001 Environmental Management System (acts as the plant management representative).
Oversees hazardous and non-hazardous waste program.  This includes ensuring the correct handling, packaging, labeling, storage and transportation of waste to approved treatment and/or disposal facilities.  
Coordinates air emission, wastewater, storm water, and waste testing.
Present safety and environmental training programs to workers and supervisors. Some standardized materials will be made available and development of site specific training materials will be required.
Responsible for driving Safety Performance in the Plant to achieve and maintain Gold Status (Goal of No Recordable / No Lost Times)
Responsible for performing 2 Behavior Based Safety Observations monthly
Ensures Safety Training is completed as required for Direct Reports
Coordinate the development of scorecards and metrics for the high performance team process.  Review and recommend changes as necessary to meet plant objectives.
Coordinate the formation of high performance teams.
Document high performance team plans.
Coordinate and track certification process and star guide systems.
Insure that all leading indicator information is updated for the teams.
Insure support information is accurate and timely.
Insure that the monthly results meetings are scheduled and completed.
Participate in the high performance team meetings and insure effectiveness of the meetings, scorecard data, and effective action plans are developed by the teams.
Identify the top performing teams on monthly and annual basis.  Coordinate recognition of teams.
Insure certification process for high performance teams, star points, star guides, and cross functional training are effective.
Prepare and share with management monthly high performance team results and recommendations.
Insure high potential team process is compliant with TS16949, ISO 14001, ISO9001 2015 and all applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
Insure the high performance team concepts are understood and used at all levels of the plant.
Ensure that teams understand how their performance relates to JCMS and plant goals.
Schedule and facilitate the monthly HPT Steering committee

What we look for:
Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental and Occupational Science preferred. In lieu of a degree, 3-5 years of Safety Experience is required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
Internet software and E-mail experience are also required.
The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
5 to 10 years of safety and environmental experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred.  In lieu of 5 to 10 year environmental experience, the employee will be trained on the applicable environmental procedures. In addition, other training requirements will be fulfilled on an on-going basis. Support is always available through JCI corporate for training.

Preferred
Ability to analyze data, convey findings and implement action plans.
Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork oriented.
Working knowledge and experience with Safe Start, STOP or other behavior based safety program preferred.
Working knowledge and experience with LEAN manufacturing techniques preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
Excellent knowledge of PC applications
Excellent communication skills.  Ability to foster solid relationships within the facility while achieving key operating objectives as it relates to environmental, health and safety.
