What you will do

PennBarry, a business unit of Johnson Controls, is a leading manufacturer of full service ventilation products for commercial and light industrial applications, including commercial and industrial fans, energy recovery units, and make-up air systems.

The Product Engineer II is responsible for design, development, and documentation for existing products within the commercial and industrial fan and blower portfolio. Including mechanical and electrical systems used in the products.

How you will do it
  • Design, fabricate, test, and evaluate existing product per design criteria defined by Engineering and Product Management.
  • Create part, assembly, and drawing files in SolidWorks software, including the use of VBA to automate the creation of SolidWorks files.
  • Provide assistance to Quality Assurance and Sales/Marketing for the investigation of field complaints.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure design specifications are maintained, eliminate waste, recommend design changes, and evaluate process improvements.
  • Test, evaluate and compare competitor’s products, materials, design, performance and application.
  • Interface with clients, engineers, architects, procurement, and manufacturing by answering questions regarding commercial and industrial fan lines.
  • Participate in meetings, seminars and training sessions to stay apprised on new developments in technology, tools, and resources. This may include participation in AMCA, UL, DOE, ASHRAE and AHRI committees.
  • Work with the procurement department to identify, qualify, and approve vendors for purchased components, including the creation of engineering specifications.
  • Generate technical reports, graphs and marketing illustrations to define/illustrate systems performance and operating characteristics.
  • Follow and comply with company work and safety rules.

What we look for


  1. Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited four year
  2. College or University is required.
  3. Minimum 2 years of applicable engineering experience required; specifically in fan/blower, dampers, louvers, GRDs, terminal units, or other air movement products.
  4. Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time to respective manufacturing locations in the US and Mexico to perform quality audits and follow up on the production of products.
  1. Hands-on SolidWorks experience is desired.
  2. Experience with Autodesk Revit, VBA, sheet metal forming and fabrication, air movement principles, and fan/blower laws is a plus.
