What you will do

This position is for a Project Manager II of new product development in the Johnson Controls Building Technologies and Solutions Chiller Organization.  As a member of the Program Management team, the Project Manager will manage up to several projects with a special focus on embedded software and hardware for control systems products.  Projects in these areas apply to subassemblies of a chiller system and, therefore, the Project Manager will create/manage plans that contribute to a larger development program with direction and oversight provided by program managers within the team.    

How you will do it
  • Collaborate and maintain close connection with program managers on development programs that feature circuit board and/or control software development
  • Assist in the translation of program-level needs (cost, schedule, quality) into project-level requirements that may be used to define the project scope and plan
  • Manage projects using the Johnson Controls phase-gate product development process.
  • Initiate, plan, execute, control and close projects to deliver project scope within budget and on-time.
  • Work with functional managers to develop project resource plan(s)
  • Lead cross-functional, global and diverse project teams.
  • Deliver progress reports, periodic presentations and project status updates via project scoreboards and management reviews.
  • Identify, escalate and help resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies, risks and critical path(s).
What we look for


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years of experience creating and managing a project schedule, assigning project tasks, facilitating project meetings and formulating resource plans
  • Technically competent  with project management software tools (such as Microsoft Project) and the Microsoft software suite.
  • Ability to travel internationally for the purpose of meeting with team members, stakeholders, or off-site personnel and management.

Ideal or Preferred

  • Education in or practitioner knowledge of Agile project management techniques
  • Experience as a project team member or project manager of circuit board projects featuring embedded software and/or firmware
  • Experience using collaboration platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams) and work management or portfolio management platforms (e.g. Daptiv, Smartsheet, Wrike)
