The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the compliance and improvement of the facility quality system as it relates to compliance to ISO 9001:2000 as well as the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System. This position requires a continuous level of production floor visibility and is responsible for projects relating to quality systems and product quality, defect analysis, corrective action systems, lean manufacturing concepts, and continuous improvement of manufacturing aspects of safety, quality, and cost initiatives. This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

How you will do it

  • Establish documentation of procedures, training and leadership in SPC, DOE and Quality Plans.
  • System audits (managing and performing) and working with Continuous Improvement Teams (leadership role) to improve the processes.
  • Provide leadership between supplier, purchasing, design engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and QA in resolving quality concerns on purchased parts and materials.
  • Ensure quality standards are met during production, resolve quality issues, and analyze SPC data.
  • Maintenance of the calibration system with manufacturing and calibration contractor.
  • Responsible for maintaining weekly review activities, developing and implementing quality improvement strategies and plans for improvement programs and ensure proper record keeping is enforced.
  • Lead the corrective action process.
  • Publish weekly and monthly reports and summaries to management as required.
  • Provide written and verbal reports of quality issues and current status of activities to management, suppliers and customers.
  • Participate and lead in projects to address quality issues that are intended to drive continual improvements by assigning tasks to the appropriate areas of responsibilities and target specific dates for corrective action plan implementation.
  • Develop and implement training program as required to ensure a complete understand go four requirements to meet form, fit function and appearance.
  • Maintenance of the calibration system with manufacturing and calibration contractor.
  • Work within the Johnson Control Manufacturing System (JCMS) and become champion of the Quality System discipline in JCMS.
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodology and train project team members in basic Six Sigma concepts.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Business or Manufacturing from an accredited four-year College or University.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Quality Assurance or Quality Engineer experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and/or training within all facets of quality control and auditing, lean processes and engineering.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing systems. 

Preferred:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Six Sigma Black Belt certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience using Minitab.
