What you will do

As a Quality Manager within our Global Chillers team you will be responsible for leading quality and reliability efforts that focus on our electronics, controls, and power electronics components, specifically, variable frequency drives. The scope will include managing process improvement projects within design engineering, test, manufacturing, and administration operations. 

The Quality Manager role includes an emphasis in analyzing warranty data to identify design and manufacturing improvements. You will be responsible for project execution through the use of CI, (Black Belts and Lean Implementers) team as a strategic resource. Using Continuous Improvement tools help the supplier's organization to meet JCI quality requirements. Improvements will be based on facts and data. 

How you will do it 
  • Role is global for all items, report to Director of Quality and Reliability for Chillers business unit. France, Asia, Monterrey and Durango Mexico, Turkey, York, PA, San Antonio, Tx. and two plants in China. Interfacing mostly with internal factories. Work between GISC and Regions to ensure lead times, plant issues and customer delivery issues are dealt with appropriately
  • Under minimal supervision, directs continuous improvement and warranty reduction on LTS / STC products. Leads teams to develop electronic/mechanical controls, panel, and chillers to meet or exceed intended warranty levels. These teams are comprised of, but not limited to, the following groups: design/manufacturing engineers, sub-contractors, suppliers, and field service personnel.
  • Organizes, directs, and manages continuous development teams in an effort to lower LTS / STC warranty claims. Employs metrics (Pareto charts) to evaluate trends in warranty claims and improvements.
  • Performs root cause analysis of warranty issues.
  • Maintains corrective action plan spreadsheet/database. Assigns tasks to members of warranty team (engineer, subcontractor, etc.) and assures accountability for assignments.
  • Is a core member of the Product Development Process
  • Provide technical support to on-site audits of BE plants and suppliers if required. To lead the audit if required and create final report.
  • Work with Engineering to determine the best design, manufacturing process, and footprint using continuous improvement tools
  • Leadership to drive improvements in the Chiller quality systems
  • Responsible for project execution to achieve warranty cost reductions
  • Reports on project progress to management team and other appropriate leadership levels at least on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares detailed plans to track project performance and assure timely completion and achievement of goals. Identifies and implements recovery plans when projects are not executing according to plan.
  • Apply Benchmark tools (globally) to identify best business practices and execute projects to implement.
  • Ensure the use of Six Sigma, Kaizen, VA/VE tools and techniques to measure, analyze, improve and control project processes.
  • Helps identify training needs to improve operational efficiencies.
Internal and external customers:
  • Supplier's manufacturing and operations, execute quality improvement projects that meet gap closure requirements.
  • Corporate: Support global improvements initiatives and deliver results

What we look for

Required

  1. Bachelor degree - major in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any other engineering discipline
  2. 10 – 15 years of experience of increasing responsibility in a manufacturing and / or quality environment and an understanding of manufacturing and quality systems
  3. Must have experience in variable speed drive (VSD, VFDs) or related power electronics.
  4. Excellent project management skills and able to work on multiple projects
  5. Capable of directing and managing multiple teams
  6. Experience with training and coaching others on problem solving and process improvement methods
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required.
  8. Up to 30% travel required
Preferred
  1. Desired Skills and / or Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, ability to lead, influence and motivate, ability to work with little supervision
