What you will do
As a Specification Engineer, you will be responsible for the promotion and specification of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning products to primary decision makers focusing within consultants (engineers and architects), whilst building and maintaining long-term customer relationships and using company defined sales processes & tools.

How you will do it

  • Owns the Johnson Controls Hitachi’s value proposition to customers by continuously optimizing the link between the customer’s operational and business objectives, needs and requirements and the Johnson Controls Hitachi’s solutions in order to provide a total value solution and competitive advantage.
  • Owns high level technical knowledge of Johnson Controls Hitachi products and design/selection tools being able to deliver product presentations and trainings to customers.
  • Owns and directs long-term customer relationships/partnerships and fully responsible for customer satisfaction (consultants) through executing the specification activity.
  • Seeks out, qualifies and closes large & more complex new opportunities, with a specific focus on new business growth.
  • Fully understands & applies knowledge of competitor’s business strategies, products and services to favorably differentiate Johnson Controls Hitachi from them.
  • Creates competitive, high quality and timely estimates, bids, proposals, and cost/benefit analysis. Ensure that new proposals and bids are compliant with Johnson Controls standards & expectations prior to customer presentation.
  • Assures correct projects tracing from design to sale with a proper coordination and fluent communication with the rest of sales and specification team members, and on time data updating.
  • Generates technically solid projects/designs looking for a differentiated proposal.
  • Owns final negotiations on value and impact to the customer’s business in order to close the sale.
  • Keeps business area (BA) and regional leadership informed of changes in the marketplace and progress on customer status. 
  • Utilizes applicable sales and specification tools effectively to plan and document progress as well as to increase business growth. 
  • Leverages Johnson Controls Hitachi sales process to close sales quickly through specification activity.
  • Controls organization to promote customer satisfaction whilst respecting Johnson Controls Hitachi strategies, processes and tools.
  • Refers leads to other business segments.

What we look for

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent through solid specification expertise.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Specification Engineer role, ideally within a manufacturer or HVAC installer/distributor.
  • Excellent initiative, and interpersonal communications skills both in writing and verbally.
  • Actively listens, probes and identifies concerns. Understands the customer’s business and speak their language.
  • Demonstrate strong technical subject matter expertise to foster credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders in the customer’s buying decision process.
  • Performing as a perfect team player.
  • “Hungry” and fully sales focused through customer satisfaction. 
  • Proven track record in achieving specification/sales/business results.
