The primary focus of this role is to manage a global portfolio of current and former facilities and third-party legacy sites undergoing environmental site remediation. The individual in this role will be a subject matter expert on site remediation, will lead a team, both internal and external, to manage environmental liability due to contamination, and work across the company to ensure activities are in compliance with all regulations and standards.

Primary Duties:
  1. Manage a global portfolio of current and former JCI facilities and third-party legacy sites undergoing environmental site remediation, providing financial reporting and technical leadership;
  2. Lead a team of professionals, both internal and external, to manage environmental liability due to contamination;
  3. Ensure all sites undergoing remediation have a strategic plan and are performing to plan;
  4. Partner with multiple parties including, Legal, Finance, Communications and EHS teams to develop and execute strategic plans for remediation and coordinate remediation efforts;
  5. Maintain reserve balances in compliance with US GAAP and Business reporting requirements;
  6. Monitor global regulatory trends and requirements and translate complex requirements to business leaders and help them leverage that information to make effective strategic business and compliance decisions;
  7. Stay abreast of company, industry and regulatory activities and trends to ensure JCI maintains an exemplary record with respect to site remediation while employing leading management practices;
  8. Build and maintain strong, credible relationships with regulatory agencies, trade associations and customers and leverage those relationships to support the company strategy;
  9. Communicate with peers and management across the company to transfer information and best practices that support and promote effective and efficient compliance and risk management.

  • 10+ years proven experience and a track record of leading remediation programs, thereby creating increased awareness, heightened standards, and improved performance at individual site locations and enterprise-wide;
  • Strong technical skills and experience in environmental site remediation is required;
  • Experience in managing site remediation programs at large and complex sites a must, experience across multiple regulatory jurisdictions preferred;
  • Ability to lead and direct in a highly matrix, team-oriented environment;
  • Global work experience preferred;
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about addressing environmental concerns/issues;
  • Ability to influence, lead independently, and exercise good judgment;
  • Ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, accurate, analytical and act with a sense of urgency when needed;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to professionally communicate with a wide variety of individuals, respond to inquiries, and provide feedback in a timely manner;
  • A Bachelor s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering or other relevant field; a Master s degree is preferred;
  • A strong business perspective that includes the ability to work with all levels of the company, including site personnel as well as senior management;
  • An excellent understanding of relevant laws, regulations and governance requirements on the United States federal and state levels, plus an understanding of international environmental programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new strategic initiatives;
  • A background which indicates a high capacity for travel and a desire to engage frequently with field-based organizations around the world;
  • High-level of leadership skills, as well as interpersonal characteristics reflecting uncompromising integrity, results-orientation, a collaborative style, a commitment to talent development, and a highly positive attitude;
  • 10-25% International and domestic travel is expected.
