What you will do:
The primary focus of this role is to manage all EHS activities and programs across the Ducted Systems & Airside Products business units of Johnson Controls. The individual in this role will be a subject matter expert in our Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS) and EHS compliance. This role is responsible for the implementation of safety & environmental management systems; which includes compliance with applicable regulations, promoting pollution prevention & waste reduction programs, training employees and the overall reduction of the business’ impact on the environment.   Responsible for reducing work related injuries by continuously improving the safety management system and leading cultural change by demonstrating exceptional leadership and engaging employees on all levels.  This role will report directly to the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations, Ducted Systems & functionally report to the Vice President of EHS, Global Products.

How you will do it:
•Coordination of EHS programs across 6 manufacturing facilities, 1 distribution center and 2 R&D centers to support the achievement of the annual EHS KPIs.
•Lead a functional team of site based EHS professionals and develop them to take on increased responsibilities
•Partner with multiple parties including, Legal, Finance, Communications and Executive leadership to develop and execute strategic plans for EHS across the business unit
•Monitor global regulatory trends and requirements and translate complex requirements to business leaders and help them leverage that information to make effective strategic business and compliance decisions
•Stay abreast of company, industry and regulatory activities and trends to ensure JCI maintains an exemplary record with respect to EHS compliance while employing leading management practices
•Communicate with peers and management across the company to transfer information and best practices that support and promote effective and efficient compliance and risk management

What we look for:
•10+ years proven experience and a track record of leading Safety and Environmental programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting, thereby creating increased awareness, heightened standards, and improved performance at individual site locations or business-wide
•Strong technical skills and experience in OSHA and EPA Programs are required
•Experience in developing and implementing motivational and incentive programs that promote a high degree of safety awareness and enthusiasm.
•Providing effective training for all safety programs including but not limited to lockout/tagout, machine guarding, fall protection, powered industrial vehicle, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, electrical safety, confined space, respiratory protection and walking and working surfaces.
•Experience in managing property risk by insuring compliance with FM Global assessments and routinely touring the property and conducting inspections to insure compliance.
•Ability to lead and direct in a highly matrix, team-oriented environment
•Global work experience is preferred
•Passionate and enthusiastic about addressing environmental concerns/issues
•Ability to influence, lead independently, and exercise good judgment
•Ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, accurate, analytical and act with a sense of urgency when needed
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to professionally communicate with a wide variety of individuals, respond to inquiries, and provide feedback in a timely manner
•A Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering or other relevant field; a Master’s degree is preferred
•Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certification is preferred
•A strong business perspective that includes the ability to work with all levels of the company, including site personnel as well as senior management
•Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new strategic initiatives
•A background which indicates a high capacity for travel and a desire to engage frequently with field-based organizations around the world
•High-level of leadership skills, as well as interpersonal characteristics reflecting uncompromising integrity, results-orientation, a collaborative style, a commitment to talent development, and a highly positive attitude
