What you will do

JCI Structured Finance is the vendor finance arm of JCI.  The team is responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing finance transactions that fund infrastructure and energy projects for Johnson Controls. The primary purpose of the team is to use various financing tools to secure revenue from project and product sales.  We also help to manage JCI’s balance sheet liquidity through the sale of receivables from financing transactions.  We offer financing to customers across multiple vertical markets including the commercial sector and government customers, such as U.S. Federal agencies; Canada Federal agencies; state and local government; school districts; universities; hospitals; and utilities. We use installment purchase arrangements, tax-exempt lease-purchases, certificates of participation, equipment leases, as-a-service models, solar power purchase agreements, equity, bonds, and public private partnerships (P3).

How you will do it

JCI Structured Finance supports markets in North America, with growing opportunities to support Europe, Asia, Middle East, and Latin America.  We are looking for a person to manage transactions for the U.S. eastern region for our State and Local Government performance contract business, as well as all of our U.S. Federal and Canadian Federal ESPC businesses.  The person will be expected to manage transactions from origination to closing.  The applicant should have initiative to go the extra mile to help JCI and customers fund projects with limited resources and within tight time constraints.  Part of the role is to gather due diligence materials for credit reviews to ensure that our development teams pursue bankable customers.  The person will also coordinate with development engineers to perform financial modeling.  Aside from finance knowledge and a strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.  Part of the role is to explain complex finance topics to sales personnel and customers who may not have the same level of expertise.  The person will interact with C-suite customer leadership and coordinate closings with our partner banks, leasing companies, underwriters, and attorneys.

JCI Structured Finance is headquartered in the downtown office of JCI at 507 E. Michigan Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202.  However, we are open to applicants that can demonstrate an ability to work remotely.

What we look for

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of lending experience, preferably more.
  • Public finance (tax-exempt) experience is a plus.
  • Experience with funding performance contracts for infrastructure, energy, or real estate projects is a plus.
  • Finance or accounting degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel 3-5 days per month (when travel restrictions due to COVID-19 are relaxed).
