What you will do
This position is responsible for managing key areas of the Test Lab operations at the JCI Advanced Development & Engineering Centre (JADEC) facility. The operations consist of multiple test stands serving multiple JCI business units (Chillers, Air Handling Units, Marine/Navy). The Test Lab operate 3 shifts and employs 70+ operators, supervisors, technicians and test engineers.

How you will do it

  1. Manage the daily operation of key test lab areas balancing the needs of the customers with the available resources.

  2. Work with test lab customers to achieve excellence in testing quality & on time delivery.

  3. Support a flexible work schedule as needed across the 3 shift operation to provide guidance, support, and follow up on any personnel issues/concerns.


  4. Supports hiring, skills/training, policy, and personnel issues along with union interaction.

  5. Address employee performance and corrective action plans; employee motivation and rewards.

  6. Work closely with Test Lab manager and HR to set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation.

  7. Work closely with Test Lab Director and HR around personnel issues to promote consistent application of the

  8. JCI policies, the General Company and Safety Guidelines along with the CBA.

  9. Support Health & Safety through participation in Joint Health Safety Committee, weekly safety training, completion of safety audits, and Safety Action Reports.

  10. Oversee project schedule for Power Electronics team, warranty, and test lab testing requirements.

  11. Oversee all maintenance and electrical work to support effective lab operations.

  12. Plan, monitor and track performance to schedule for all assembly, weld, and electrical work to support effective lab operations.

  13. Manage effective warehouse operations to support appropriate inventory levels, cost control, shipping, receiving, kitting, etc. to support effective lab operations.

  14. Support facilitation of loading/unloading of Industrial HVAC equipment with crane service and lift plan.

  15. Maintain refrigerant, oil, propane (liquid and vapor), oxygen, acetylene and nitrogen tracking logs each month and order as needed to support testing requirements.

  16. Support accuracy of timekeeping and production management systems that include LODIS, MRP, and Kronos systems across all 3 shifts.


What we look for
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Minimum eight years of experience in a manufacturing/test lab environment and supervisory/management role.
  3. Must have experience working in union workforce environments.
  4. Highly effective and professional interpersonal skills.
  5. Candidate must be well organized and capable of managing numerous competing priorities.
  6. Experience building and leading teams.
  7. Strong understanding of lean disciplines, process improvement and KPI tracking.
  8. Strong computer and organizational skills.
  9. Ability to be proactive, follow up and follow through around regular activities along with future projects.
  10. Be able to use good judgement and build rapport with diverse internal and external clientele.
  11. Previous experience in heavy industrial environment highly preferred.
  12. Direct working experience chillers or HVAC products preferred.
