What you will do

The Vice President of Global Operations Excellence for the Global Products business is responsible for developing and deploying the global manufacturing strategies to achieve world class performance.  The strategic direction encompasses all facets of the global manufacturing operations, including the Continuous Improvement, Quality, Global Network Management and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering teams. The role is ultimately accountable for operational improvements across a diverse network of 100 plants within Johnson Controls.  This role finally serves the leadership role in advancing our Johnson Control Manufacturing System (JCMS) at an enterprise level. 

How you will do it
  • Creates vision, strategy and goals for achieving operational excellence across our global manufacturing footprint.  As the company’s network profile evolves, this role needs to ensure world-class continuous improvement is inherent in expanded and new sites.
  • Through collaboration, develops and delivers the operational objectives across all global sites, including delivery, quality, conversion cost and inventory performance.
  • Leads the Continuous Improvement, Quality, Material Control, Global Network and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering functional teams to establish each functional strategy and deployment across the full global supply chain network to drive business results and improvements in our overall capabilities.
    • The Continuous Improvement team manages Global Products total conversion cost improvement through the effective management of project tracking tools and the maturation/adoption of ‘best practices’ to standardize and achieve world class performance per our Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS).
    • The Quality team drives overall factory improvements, product improvements in the field and overall warranty improvements in the P&L.
    • The Material Control team is accountable for overall Global Products inventory and delivery performance.  This team drives supply planning process improvements across each business and material control improvements within each factory.
    • The Global Network team leads analytical assessments of a supply chain network, resulting in changes to improve cost and lead time competitiveness.  The global network team is also responsible for the overall program management of all network moves utilizing a comprehensive Footprint Playbook.
    • The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team drives technological advancements/automation through strategic roadmaps and tactical expectation into our operations to create a competitive cost and quality advantage in the marketplace.  The AME team is accountable to prioritize and manage the Global Products capital expenditure plans across all PBU’s.
    • These core functional teams are equipped with subject matter experts to build capabilities across each PBU and directly lead teams in resolving larger challenges
  • Reports the overall operational performance scorecards across the manufacturing network; works with the manufacturing leaders on recovery plans where there are gaps to target.
  • Drives people development and a strong talent pipeline across the key manufacturing functions.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships across a matrixed organization at all levels of management.

What we look for
  • Bachelor degree - major in supply chain or related discipline. Master degree - major in Business, Administration or an Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of successful experience in operational leadership roles encompassing plant management, materials management, sales and operations planning and continuous improvement with strong business acumen and financial management. 
  • Experience in driving consistent operational excellence across a global, complex set of businesses with largely independent supply chains
  • Experience and proven results working with internal and external senior leaders on top strategic projects and achieving business changing results
  • Excellent project management skills and able to effectively manage multiple projects globally.
  • Demonstrated performance of directing and managing diverse teams, including union relationships and multi-cultural exposure
  • Experience and demonstrated success with training and coaching others on performance enhancement and process improvement methods
  • Solid and dynamic leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate
