What you will do

Leads all functional aspects of product management across global products for Johnson Controls. Specifically focused on designing and building organizational capacity across each business unit in order to maximize the performance and strategic development, deployment and continuous improvement.  This includes the strategic visioning and advancement of all processes, technology, and talent management systems to establish JCI with a robust competence for product management talent development, effectiveness, and management disciplines.  This position will also be fully accountable for the realization of planned returns for all new product investments across Global Products.  They will chair the enterprise new product introduction counsel and liaise directly with global sales, engineering, and product management within each product business unit to drive planned results.

 
How you will do it
  1. Develops and leads Johnson Controls new product introduction ensuring a model for unified product management frameworks. 
  2. Develop strategies, programs, processes, and tools to achieve objectives for profitable growth, investment returns, and market leadership across global products. 
  3. Develops and delivers all necessary infrastructures to develop and optimize Johnson Controls product management disciplines. 
  4. Provides a continuous improvement focus, market expertise and product management leadership support to improve competency and talent in product management across global products.
  5. Build a collaborative team for product management and product management including competency models, talent management, and recognition.
  6. Functionally leads all product management leadership in each product business unit.
  7. External scanning and industry/professional associations’ engagement regarding thoughtful leadership, benchmarking, continuous improvement, trend analysis, etc.
  8. Develop metrics to support corporate operations reviews with committed methods and KPIs that gauge health of product management discipline effectiveness, portfolio pipelining, and relevant trends. 
What we look for
  • Bachelor’s degree required in business, marketing, engineering or equivalent experience.  MBA or other graduate-level degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 15+ years’ product management or executive marketing management experience including direct product portfolio management experience and accountability.
  • Experience in managing a matrix organization and influencing functional expertise.
  • Excellent understanding of the product development life-cycle processes and methodologies. 
  • Demonstrated ability in achievement delivering results and leading people over an extended period of time. 
  • Preferred understanding and knowledge of our company and industries we serve, and ability to coordinate different parts of organizations to achieve success.
  • Strong planning, financial and analytical skills, with proven ability to apply these skills with deft business acumen to complex   with competing priorities.
  • Proven expertise in developing and utilizing a management operating system to drive commercial performance.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and effectively manage cross-functional teams charged with launching new products.
  • Ability to challenge convention and advance best-in-class product management models.
  • Strong consulting skills. 
  • Proven ability to partner with senior business leaders to understand needs and deliver solutions that meet expectations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail a commitment to quality and be results driven and customer focused.
  • Demonstrated ability to write well, edit effectively and present complex issues and projects succinctly, logically, and persuasively. 
  • Experience in the organization and/or delivery of sales training preferred. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and drive the commercial vision, mission and strategy of the organization.  Ability to influence without authority.. .
  • A commercial and/or P&L leader from a stand-alone company or a large business unit within a sophisticated public company environment.  This person will come from an enterprise known for its commercial marketing capabilities. 
  • Strong technical expertise gained through previous experience in product development and/or leading product innovation would be highly desirable.  
  • Travel requirement – up to 50%.
